Fantasy Survivor Series 2016 Card #1
The fall, a season when the temperatures become comfortable, the leaves change colors then eventually fall off the trees. It’s also the time of year for traditions, kids getting dressed up for Halloween to go trick or treating, Thanksgiving is a time to get together with your family to celebrate being thankful for what you have and the Survivor Series!!! Since 1987, WWE has been putting this show on in November to see who has what it takes to survive.
Now, the last several years the WWE has gone away from this tradition but not for me. I grew up on the concept of two teams of five or two teams of four fighting to be not only the winners but also the survivors of the match. Last year I started creating my own Survivor Series cards using the five on five format and the four on four format. Over the next four weeks I will be creating four different cards using the current WWE roster and members of the WWE Hall of Fame. At the end of the four weeks, you the readers will decide what was the best card of the four and that will be declared the winner.
I will reveal each card on That Wrestling Show and then will write an article going into greater detail why the matches and teams were made along with the partners that were selected. So if you don’t get to hear what the matches are on the show you will be able to read them right here on the website. Let’s get into the first card with the five on five format with the current WWE roster.
John Cena (Captain), Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns & Dolph Ziggler vs. AJ Styles (Captain), Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Rusev & the Miz
One thing I want everybody to know about this card and the second card is that there are no brand splits. So you won’t see team Raw against team Smackdown in any of these matches. With that said, what a main event this would be. John Cena being the captain of the team was an obvious choice as he is still one of, if not the most popular wrestler in WWE today. Bringing the Shield together for a one night reunion was actually something I never thought about until after I had created this card. At the moment you have Rollins dealing with Owens, Reigns dealing with Rusev and we know about the short but violent history of Ambrose and Jericho. Dolph Ziggler is a great fit for this team as his character is at the hottest it has been in a long time and deserves to be in the main event. Who would’ve thought at this time one year ago that AJ Styles would be in the WWE, let alone be the WWE Champion. It was a tough decision to make with him or Owens being the captain of the team and while both men make great cases to be the captain in the end I went with storyline and with Cena being the captain on one side it only makes sense for Styles to be the captain on the other. With Styles being the team captain it was a no brainer to have Owens on the team and bringing Jericho onto the team as his best friend was easy. Rusev has been one of the best heels this year and has really earned the right to be in the main event, meanwhile who would’ve thought that the Miz would be in the main event of this match. He has become so much better and has become so hated that he should be in this position plus with the feud against Ziggler, where else could he be but in the main event?
Randy Orton (Captain), Finn Balor, Cesaro, Sami Zayn & Neville vs. Bray Wyatt (Captain), Luke Harper, Sheamus, Erick Rowan & Braun Strowman
Of the matches that I created for this card, this was the hardest card to create. Not because of the lack of talent but because of the talent that won’t be used in the show with a women’s elimination match and a tag teams elimination match. Again picking the team captains was pretty easy, you could make a case that this match could’ve had Dolph Ziggler and the Miz as the team captains which would’ve been very interesting but they both deserved to be in the main event and with all do respect to Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt I didn’t think those two should’ve been in the main event if a story wouldn’t be created for them. I’m sure a lot of people are surprised seeing Finn Balor being on this team since he is injured but remember, this is fantasy and no injuries will keep anybody out of the Survivor Series. After having Cesaro joining Orton’s team picking the last two members of that team was very hard. I could’ve gone with guys like Kane, Big Show or Mark Henry but those three men haven’t been on television as much since the draft happened. Sami Zayn and Neville, however, have been on television a lot and you could make a good story of these two guys who have no right being on this team being the underdogs of the team and doing anything they can to survive. The other team however, with Bray Wyatt as captain creating his team was almost pretty easy. To create a team he would need his family back together for one common goal which is to eliminate and survive. Luke Harper and Erick Rowan are as loyal to Wyatt as any man to a leader and makes perfect sense. Bringing Braun Strowman into the team is interesting as his character has completely changed since being on his own and would be interesting to see if he would go with Wyatt and his family or go on his own. The wild card of the team obviously is Sheamus, while not a Wyatt family member he would have the same goal that the other members of the team do which is to eliminate and his feud with Cesaro would continue in a very good way.
Kofi Kingston & Big E (Captains), Heath Slater & Rhyno, Chad Gable & Jason Jordan, Enzo Amore & Big Cass and Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley vs. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows (Captains), Jimmy & Jey Uso, Simon Gotch & Aiden English, Epico & Primo and Viktor & Konnor
This was easily the most fun match to create of the entire card. When making this match last year it was really hard as the tag team division at that time was not that good and not that strong. This year however, it is completely different. Strong teams used in this match, a couple of teams having to be left off and all around you have the best teams in WWE right now being used. New Day being the team captains was really easy as they are being pushed right now as the possible record breaking tag team champions, with the partners being a wide range from goof balls to serious wrestlers to the odd couple. Heath Slater & Rhyno has become an entertaining team to watch since first put together. No team has gotten as much popularity within WWE during the last year then American Alpha, a team that at first didn’t seem like they would fit but now are like a machine in the ring and exciting to watch. Enzo and Cass being on this team makes so much sense, why leave this team out when they are so over at this point in time? Ryder & Rawley rounding out the team is a fun team that can have a good match with the right team and you can hide any weaknesses this team has at the moment. Anderson & Gallows being the captains of the other team was real easy, again like Styles who would’ve thought at this time a year ago this team would be in WWE. With Jimmy & Jey Uso now heels and being hated is a great addition to this team that breathes fresh air into the heel team. The Vaudevillians brings the sneakiness into the team as they are old school and gentlemen. Epico & Primo are a team that right now are under the radar and could be a team to keep an eye out for in 2017 and this match gives them the chance to prove there worth. The final members of this team at first was a little tough to figure out but when you look at it, the Ascension have been on television more lately then Tyler Breeze & Fandango despite being the better team in my opinion. You go with the hot hand and at this point in time Viktor & Konnor are the hot hand between the two and get the last spot on this team.
Sasha Banks (Captain), Becky Lynch, Bayley, Nikki Bella & Naomi vs. Charlotte (Captain), Alexa Bliss, Dana Brooke, Carmella & Nia Jax
Putting most of these two teams together was pretty easy except for who would get the last spot on each team? If Paige hadn’t been in suspension and whatever else is going on with her life, she would be on Sasha’s team. If Alicia Fox was being used more often then just as a jobber, she would be on Sasha’s team. But Naomi has been on a lot lately and holds a win over Alexa Bliss and thus gets the final spot on Sasha’s team having an almost B.A.D. reunion. Meanwhile for Charlotte’s team it really came down to two women. Natalya for some people would probably make the most sense since she has been on television consistently and would bring the experience to the team. However, the WWE has been pushing Nia Jax as this dangerous, vicious Amazon like woman and has been dominating her competition. No offense to Natalya, but Nia Jax fits the entire idea of Survivor Series and getting a new star over has made careers and what a great way to use an event like Survivor Series to put Nia Jax over by having her get a couple of eliminations.
That does it for the first fantasy Survivor Series card, what do you think of this card? Do you like the matches, do you hate the matches? What changes would you make to this card? Let me know by sending me an email firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a comment in the Facebook group. Next week, I will use the current WWE roster one more time but this time using the four on four format. An extra match, but with less talent used who will be put on and who will be left off the card? Come back next week to see.
